Washing Machine Repairs
The average lifespan of a washing machine is 10-14 years. If a washing machine is approaching this age and needs an expensive repair, it is usually best to buy a new one. It is likely more parts of the machine will fail in the near future which can add up to the price of a new washer in no time. Our technicians will give our customers all of the information they need to make an informed decision on whether to repair or replace their appliance.

Parts that Commonly Fail
Some parts that go out on washing machines are wash motors, spin motors, drain pumps, transmissions, shock absorbers, water inlet valves, door latches, dials, and control boards. If the machine isn't washing as well as it used to that is a sign that the wash motor, spin motor, or transmission are bad. Failure of these parts causes the washer to not be able to spin and/or agitate. Loud grating noises also indicate a wash motor, spin motor, and/or transmission problem. If the shock absorbers are bad the washer may continue to fill and agitate much longer than necessary because it will sense that the load it unbalanced. It may also stop filling and begin to drain before even starting the wash cycle. If the unbalanced load does begin to wash there is likely to be a loud thumping noise and excessive vibration. The washer not filling can indicate a bad water inlet valve. A bad door latch can cause the machine to not start washing at all because the computer believes that the door is still open. If the machine only does what you tell it to do sometimes, it could be a loose connection of some of the dials used to select wash preferences or a bad control board. The washer not turning on at all also indicates a control board issue.
What are some common washing machine problems?
Do not overload the washer. This can cause the shock absorbers to get worn out.
Do not over use detergent. This causes film particle build up and increases chances of mold developing. The mold and build up will degrade she seal and gaskets inside the washer that protect from leaks.
Don't use fabric softener at all. Fabric softener puts a waxy film onto your clothes and this film also coats the washing machine and makes it easier for mold to form and generally wears out the washer faster.
Keep the door of the washer open when it is not washing so it properly airs out and dries to reduce the chance of mold.
Do not let wet clothes sit in the washer for long periods of time. This can also allow mold to grow and can possibly lead to rust.
Run cleaning cycles on the machine about once a month helps get rid of the film build up in the washer.
Wipe the water off of the gasket seal at the front of the dishwasher to prevent after every load to prevent it from molding and degrading.
Remove and clean the dispenser drawer every 2-3 months.
Check the lower filter for blockages every 6 months.
Things not to put in the washer:
Wash bras in a laundry bag to prevent the underwire and hooks from slipping in between the inner and outer tubs.
Clothes with a lot or sand or mud on them are best to shake off before putting into the washer.
Stuff with a lot of pet hair. The pet hair can clump up when it gets wet which can lead to blockages in the hose.
Anything with sequins, gemstones, glitter, or any other loose embellishments that can call off and get caught in the washer causing damage to the wash tub or blockages in the drain hose.
Open zippers can also catch on the tub and scratch the inside of the washer.
Clothes with flammable stains such as gasoline or oil because it is a potential fire hazard.
Heavy dense items such as pillows or blankets will cause great wear and tear on the shock absorbers. The weight of the item can make it hard for the washer to balance the load and during the spin cycle the item will be thrown against the side of the tub repeatedly. The washer spinning such a heavy item can also put stress on the motor and the entire wash assembly.
